Speaker: Caleb Hopkins

Hi, I'm the owner of H2O Plumbing and we're here located in Bertram, Texas. So here at H2O Plumbing, if you have a leak in your yard, we do leak detection. There's a lot of steps to diagnose the issue that you have. But we actually show up and we'll spend the time to find the leak. We go through the steps. There's a reason we have plumbers who have 30 years of experience on our team. So one of the biggest things with leak detection is not just walking around and trying to find a wet spot, you actually need to monitor your meter. And sometimes it takes two guys on site where you can have one guy out at the meter. And so once we find the leak and we fix it, we go back to the meter, we verify that it says no water's flowing, and then we know our client has no leaks on the property.

When to get in touch

The signs aren’t always obvious.

A wet spot is useful information. So is a change in water use. We put the clues together before recommending the repair.

  • A water bill that rises without an obvious reason
  • Moisture on a wall, floor or ceiling
  • A persistently wet area along a pipe route
  • A new drop in pressure at several fixtures

How we work

From leak investigation to water-line repair.

  1. 01

    Understand what changed

We review the symptoms, water-use history, visible plumbing and any previous repairs.

  2. 02

    Narrow down the source

The investigation is chosen for the property and affected system. We explain what the findings establish.

  3. 03

    Repair with a clear scope

You see the proposed pipe work, access needs and restoration responsibilities before deciding.

The right work for your property

Finding the leak. Choosing the repair.

A localized repair

When the issue is confined to a defined section, a targeted repair may address the finding with less disruption.

A wider line replacement

Repeated failures or the condition of a longer section may justify replacement. We explain the reason and route rather than assuming more work is better.

Pricing & planning

Know the work.
Know the cost.

The pipe location, material, depth and repair length affect the work. Diagnosis, excavation and repairs to walls or landscaping need to be clearly included or excluded.

Discuss your repair
Details that help narrow the question

Note whether the change is continuous or intermittent, which rooms or outdoor areas are affected, and whether it relates to hot or cold water. Recent irrigation changes, appliance use, past repairs and utility alerts can provide context. Compare water usage as well as the bill total, since charges can change for reasons other than consumption. EPA WaterSense

How the problem is evaluated

The symptom history helps define the area of concern. The next conversation is about the diagnostic approach, the access it needs and the limits of what it can establish. A repair recommendation should connect those findings to the proposed work before finishes or ground are disturbed.

Make the repair fit the finding

Ask whether a localized repair addresses the finding, whether more of the same line needs assessment, and whether the proposed route changes access or future maintenance. A broader piping recommendation should explain why work beyond the identified failure is justified.

What affects cost and timing

The pipe route, depth, material and repair length all matter. Diagnosis, excavation, openings in finishes and restoration may be separate parts of the project. Ask how water interruptions will be handled and who is responsible for any landscaping, irrigation or finish repairs.

Scheduling, permits & warranties

The address, scope, materials and any required inspections determine the schedule. We discuss service interruptions, approvals and work by other trades before you decide.

Your written estimate should identify the applicable manufacturer and workmanship warranty terms, including any exclusions. Coverage is specific to the agreed work and equipment.

Before we get started

Leak detection and water-line questions.

Have a question about your property? We’re happy to talk it through.

Ask H2O Plumbing Authority
Does a high water bill prove a hidden leak?

No. Check the amount of water used, the length of the billing period and any recent changes in household or irrigation use. A change in usage can help guide an investigation, but the bill alone does not locate a leak.

Is a wet lawn enough to locate a water-line leak?

A wet patch is a useful clue, but it may have more than one cause. We need to understand where the water is coming from before deciding which pipe, if any, needs repair.

Will locating a leak require an opening?

An investigation may narrow down the location before a wall or the ground is opened. The approach depends on the property. We explain what the checks can establish and discuss access before recommending the next step.

What records help?

Previous plumbing plans, repair invoices, photos and water-use alerts can help. A short timeline of when you first noticed the problem is useful, too.
